In total, there will be 7 documentary-style YouTube videos.

I’ve edited & published the first two. I’m constantly working on this long-term passion project in my free time.

  • Chapter 1 (STL) is composed of over 250 clips condensed into 26 minutes in length.

  • Chapter 2 (TX) is composed of over 850 clips condensed into 111 minutes in length.

  • Chapter 3 (NM) is in post production and will use over 1,200 clips.

  • 6,555 individual videos

    • 4,513 videos shot on iPhone

    • 2,042 videos shot on DSLR

  • 213 timelapses

I spent 7 months traveling around the middle of the USA with my dog. On my journey, I made it a priority to get better at videography and storytelling.

Using the best moments from my favorite films, I’ve re-packaged movie clips into nearly 400 one-minute short-form videos.

Here are some stats:

I fully understand that these impressive statistics only exist due to the hard work done to create these classic films.

However, by working to convert clips into Shorts, I get a close look into some things that I would’ve never noticed from a normal viewing.

Some of my learnings:

  • How to frame an interesting shot using light, depth, and 3D space

  • How the use of music can drastically affect the emotional tone of a scene

  • How to hook viewers in and keep them engaged for a complete, 1-minute story

30 Day Skills

Blender 30-Day challenge

This was my routine;

I worked around 4 hours per day, capturing raw video for each day.

I captured my work from three perspectives: facecam, over the shoulder cam, and a screen recording, combining these into one Streamlabs video file.

Then, I’d bring the file into Premiere Pro, speed it up to anywhere between 10,000% to 30,000%.

After that, I recorded voiceover, created animated subtitles, and used sound effects and additional b-roll to complete the videos.

What I learned:

  • How to improve at a single skill as fast as possible

  • How to power myself through the “valley of despair” of the Dunning-Kruger effect

  • How to model, texture, animate, and render 3D animations in Blender from scratch

I spent 30 days in a row learning the 3D Animation software, Blender.

Truthfully, it was closer to 40 days, but “30 days” makes for a cleaner content package.

I created short videos for each day in the challenge with the goal to create a rocket animation by the final day.

I’m glad you made it this far!
